Muscat Harbor in Oman
Doha Museum Of Islamic Art in Qatar
  • Two-nights in Muscat, the majestic capital city of Oman, where ancient cultural traditions and breathtaking natural beauty blend with 21st century modernity.
  • Seven-night cruise from Muscat, Oman, calling at Fujairah, UAE, with a visit to the quiet East Coast, filled with beautiful natural landscapes, captivating history and archaeological sites.
  • Explore the landscapes of Khasab, Oman, with an off-road mountain safari.
  • Visit Manama, Bahrain, known for its trade and financial centers, and learn about the region's Pearling Path, with visits to the UNESCO-designated Bu Mahir Fort and Bahrain Fort.
  • Discover fascinating Doha, Qatar, a city blending tradition and modernity. Visit its superb Museum of Islamic Art (designed by Ming Pei, the architect of the Louvre Pyramid) and be enchanted by dazzling handicrafts and pungent spices at Waqif Souk, the marketplace situated in the old town.
  • Conclude your journey at Abu Dhabi, the booming capital of the UAE, to visit the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque with its sumptuous décor of marble, gold, and glass. Also visit the Heritage Village, an immersive replica of a traditional oasis village, including sites such as a Bedouin camp, fishing hamlet, mosque and ancient souk.
Depart your home city for an overnight flight.
Arrive and transfer to the deluxe Kempinski Hotel Muscat, a luxury beach resort. Meet for a Welcome Reception, then make your own dinner plans.
This morning, enjoy breakfast at the hotel. Then spend time relaxing or exploring Muscat on your own. For sightseeing suggestions, visit the Gohagan Travel Hospitality Desk at the hotel.
Gather for a delicious group lunch at a local restaurant, and sample local cuisine. Afterward, embark on a guided city tour. Stop at the National Museum of Oman, and delve into Oman’s fascinating history and cultural heritage.  Next, take a brief walk to see the striking Al Alam Palace, the Sultan of Oman’s official residence, with its distinctive gold-and-blue façade and trumpet-shaped columns. The palace occupies a beautiful waterfront spot on the harbor and is flanked by the Mirani and Jalali Forts. Capture beautiful photographs here!
Finally, revel in the colorful, fragrant and bustling scene within Muscat’s vibrant bazaar, Mutrah Souq, and perhaps purchase some Omani frankincense, considered the world’s finest. Also for sale are spices, perfumes, souvenirs, jewelry, textiles and pottery at this souk, one of the oldest markets in the Arabian world.

Transfer back to the hotel. Or, if you’d prefer, transfer to the Corniche Promenade beside the Gulf of Oman, where you can take a scenic stroll. This 1.8-mile walkway is lined with markets, restaurants, fountains and gardens. Soak up the beautiful harbor views; you may see dhows (traditional Indian Ocean sailing ships) sailing into the port for the evening.

Travel inside the magnificent Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, the second-largest mosque in the world. The building was designed as a blend of Islamic, Omani and Middle Eastern architecture; its five minarets represent the five pillars of Islam. After six years of construction, it was completed in 2,000 and can accommodate 20,000 worshippers. Marvel at the beautiful mosaics, the jaw-dropping chandelier and hand-woven carpet, and the lush surrounding gardens.

Travel inland for a guided tour of the imposing Nakhl Fort. Built atop craggy rocks, it offers impressive views of the Hajar Mountains and the surrounding palm tree orchards and natural hot springs. The fort—originally built in the ninth century and expanded in the 17th century— is irregularly shaped because it is built around and incorporates rocky outcroppings. The fort is famous for its impressive series of towers, battlements and gates, along with a central courtyard and well.

Savor lunch at a local restaurant, then head to the pier and embark the luxurious small ship Le Bougainville. Settle in and attend a presentation by the staff and a safety drill.

Tonight, and every night on board, enjoy a delicious dinner.

Fujairah is well-known for its glitz and glamor. But there is another side of Fujairah, the East Coast, which is filled with beautiful natural landscapes, captivating history and archaeological sites. Explore the scenic town of Khor Fakkan, with its lovely beachfront and backdrop of the stark Hajar Mountains. Visit archeological sites, some dating back 4,000 years. Lunch is included at a local restaurant at Al-Aqah Beach. Afterward, embark on an afternoon excursion of your choosing:

Al Bidya Mosque and Fujairah Museum

Enjoy a guided visit to Al Bidya Mosque, the oldest in the United Arab Emirates. It is notable for its small size and unusual architecture—instead of one central dome, this mosque has four domes of unequal size. It is constructed of mud and stone, and is thought to have been built 500 years ago. Then tour the Fujairah Museum, which houses exhibits on Emirati history and archaeological artifacts, some dating back to 2,000 B.C. Learn about traditional occupations in the area, such as farming, weaving, pottery and fishing.

Al-Aqah Beach

Finish the day with a relaxing visit to Al-Aqah Beach, one of the UAE's most beautiful and unspoiled beaches. The beach is notable for its white sand, coral reef and marine life, which attracts many divers to the area.

Join your fellow passengers for a Captain’s Welcome Reception and Dinner onboard this evening.

Set off on an exciting, guided drive up Jebel Al Harim, the Musandam Peninsula’s highest mountain at 6,745 feet. Legend has it that when local men traveled for long fishing or hunting trips and left their wives and daughters unprotected, the women climbed the mountain to hide in caves, avoiding potential abductions from pirates or men of rival tribes. Thus the mountain was called Jebel Al Harim, which translates to “Mountain of Women.” Along your route, admire spectacular, expansive vistas of the rugged mountains and sparkling water, and study fossilized rocks and ancient petrographs.

Return to the ship and settle in for a delicious lunch on board. This afternoon, choose between two included excursions:

·      Khasab and Bukha Forts.

Visit the striking 17th-century Khasab Fort, originally built by the Portuguese and then taken over and manned by the Omanis. The fort is well-preserved and is now filled with Omani cultural exhibits, including displays on local flora and fauna. The site offers beautiful views and photo opportunities.

Next take a scenic drive along the panoramic coastal road to Bukha. Visit the 200-year-old Bukha Fort and Tower, set among the mountains overlooking the sea. On the return drive back to the ship, stop at a local hotel for light refreshments.

·      Musandam Sail.

Relax aboard a traditional wooden dhow, a two-masted sailing ship traditional to the Indian Ocean, as we sail through the Musandam’s tranquil clear waters in the only desert fjords in the world. Along the longest and most spectacular fjord, often called “Norway of the Middle East,” admire the breathtaking scenery, with mountains over 2,000 feet high rising from the sea. Pass small fishing villages and the ruins of Telegraph Island, the location of a British telegraphic cable base from 1864-69. While the dhow anchors, enjoy a swim, snorkel or just sit back and sip soft drinks while admiring the scenery. Keep an eye out for dolphins, which are often sighted in the area.

After this afternoon’s excursion, return to the ship for a relaxing evening and dinner on board.

While sailing today, attend lectures, unwind at the pool or relish quiet time in your luxurious cabin or a cozy lounge. And of course, savor three delicious meals!

Guest Speaker: Join distinguished guest speaker, retired CIA intelligence officer Jonna Hiestand Mendez, for a fascinating lecture. During her 27-year career, Mendez served as a Chief of Disguise for the agency’s Office of Technical Services. With expertise in operational disguise and identity transformation, Jonna’s responsibilities included preparing the CIA’s most highly placed foreign assets to gather intelligence. She and her late husband, Antonio Mendez, co-wrote several books, including “Spy Dust,” “Argo” and “The Moscow Rules.”

This morning, learn about Bahrain’s former pearl trade on the Pearling Path. Before the discovery of oil in the Arabian Gulf, the region’s economy centered on an elusive, rare beauty — the natural pearl. A traditional livelihood for more than 7,000 years, pearl diving was integral to coastal communities, with the industry reaching its peak during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The warm, sunlit gulf waters, ideal for oyster beds, were shallow enough that divers could submerge for as long as they could hold their breath.

Tour the acclaimed National Museum, one of the country’s most popular attractions. Afterward, visit the Bu Mahir Fort, recently named a UNESCO World Heritage site as part of the Pearling Path. Next, enjoy a guided visit to the UNESCO-listed Bahrain Fort, the site of the capital of the Dilmun civilization, a Bronze Age trading power. Excavations at the site reveal archaeological remains from 3,000 B.C. Finally, visit the rig where oil was first discovered in Bahrain in 1932.

Return to the ship to settle in for a delicious lunch. Spend the afternoon relaxing on board, or choose the following optional excursion.

Optional Desert Safari. This afternoon, you can opt to book a guided drive through Bahrain’s desert in a 4x4 vehicle at an additional cost.

Enjoy a relaxing evening and dinner on board.

Get a delightful glimpse of Qatari life as you meander in the winding aisles of Doha’s Souq Waqif, brimming with aromatic spices, handicrafts, jewelry and textiles. Continue to the Museum of Islamic Art inside a stunning building by famed architect I.M. Pei, and marvel at extraordinary masterpieces of Islamic craftsmanship. Finish with a scenic waterfront drive to admire Doha’s modern wonders, such as West Bay’s futuristic towers and Pearl-Qatar, a man-made island development. (The order of these visits may be reversed.)

After lunch on the ship, stay on board, enjoying the ship’s amenities, or return to Doha by shuttle to spend the afternoon at your leisure at Katara Cultural Village.

Culture and recreation come together in the unique Katara Cultural Village. It encompasses a mosque, planetarium, amphitheater, galleries, performance spaces and a beach where you can rent water sports equipment or take a traditional dhow ride! Enjoy a variety of dining options (such as Moscow’s famous Café Pouchkine), high-end shopping venues (such as the iconic French department store Galeries Lafayette and Le Chocolat Alain Ducasse) and beauty services (such as Christian Louboutin Nail Bar and Tom Ford the Barber).

Explore Abu Dhabi’s landmarks and take in the magnificent skyline. Stop by Yas Island, an incredible leisure destination, and take photos at the iconic Ferrari World. On a guided tour, behold the gleaming Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, the UAE’s largest mosque, which welcomes people of all faiths. Be awed by its decorative details, from the dazzling marble courtyard and serene reflective pools to the world’s largest hand-knotted carpet.

Settle in for a delectable lunch onboard the ship.

This afternoon, learn about Abu Dhabi’s roots at Heritage Village, an immersive replica of a traditional oasis village, including sites such as a Bedouin camp, fishing hamlet, mosque and ancient souk. Discover artifacts, watch craftsmen demonstrating traditional skills, shop and admire the beautiful views across the water.

Join your fellow passengers for a Captain’s Farewell Reception and Dinner on the ship, and bid farewell to your Arabian adventure!

After breakfast, disembark and transfer to the Dubai airport for your return flight home.
