Arrive at Juneau International Airport in Juneau, Alaska. Proceed to the baggage claim area and retrieve your luggage, then meet a Gohagan & Company representative.
Those arriving early will transfer to a group hospitality room at a local hotel (details to be announced). After lunch on your own at the hotel or nearby, you will then travel with the group to the pier to embark the WindStar Star Seeker. Those arriving later will transfer directly to the pier for embarkation.
This evening, attend a Gohagan & Company Welcome Briefing and lifeboat drill, followed by a dinner on board the ship as we depart Juneau.
Cruise Tracy Arm. As we sail through this narrow fjord, notice the sheer cliffs — some of which rise to heights of 4,000 feet above water — the hundreds of waterfalls, and, of course, the massive, blue Sawyer Glaciers. Keep your eyes (and ears!) tuned to the glaciers — you may be lucky enough to experience one calving, when giant chunks of ice break off and crash into the water. Look around for floating icebergs and “growlers” (smaller ice chunks) — the larger icebergs often host harbor seals who perch aboard and cruise the fjord. Speaking of wildlife, Tracy Arm hosts an incredible variety; be on the lookout for mountain goats perched on the cliffs, black and brown bears, whales, bald eagles and much more. (Mild)
Welcome Reception: This evening, join your fellow travelers tonight for the Captain’s Welcome Reception and Dinner on board. Raise a glass to your upcoming adventure!
Elfin Cove. Visit this unique, vibrant fishing community of only 25 year-round residents. Located across from Glacier Bay National Park and surrounded by Tongass National Forest, this area is loaded with natural beauty and stunning wildlife. In summer, Elfin Cove’s population swells to 200 people or more, lured in by the awesome fishing, hiking and kayaking. The village has a scenic boardwalk that serves as the main highway since there are no roads or motorized vehicles. (Mild)
Free Time: After exploring Elfin Cove, return to the ship for a delectable lunch on board. Then spend some free time relaxing as the ship departs Elfin Cove and sails for Point Adolphus. Cruise Point Adolphus. Point Adolphus boasts some of the best whale-watching in North America. The cold, nutrient-dense waters appeal to humpbacks and other species of whales, who come here to feed, and teach their babies to feed, on krill, plankton and small fish. You may also see sea lions and sea otters in the water; brown bears fishing or playing on nearby beaches; and a plethora of sea birds overhead. (Mild)
Tuck in to another delicious dinner on board this evening.
Sitka National Historical Park. Discover pieces of Alaska’s history and culture in this museum and park, located on the site of the 1804 Battle of Sitka. Walk along the lush forest trail, spy the famous totems and learn how this unusual collection came to be. Visit carving rooms where native Alaskan artisans demonstrate their art form. (Moderate)
Raptor Encounter. Next, on a 60-foot-tall, 180-degree dome screen, watch an impressive film about Alaska and bald eagles. Afterward, a guide and handler from the Alaska Raptor Center will introduce you to a bird of prey during a demonstration. Learn about the Raptor Center, which takes in injured birds — such as eagles, falcons, hawks and owls — and rehabilitates them, hoping to release them back into the wild. (Moderate)
Free Time: Return to the ship for a yummy lunch, then spend this afternoon at leisure onboard. Delight in another delicious dinner this evening.
Wrangell. Discover the fascinating native culture of this area, which has been home to the Tlingit people for thousands of years. During your visit, see an impressive collection of hand-carved totems. Take a guided walk to Petroglyph Beach State Historic Park, home to rock carvings that are some 8,000 years old. There are approximately 50 petroglyphs here, but many are submerged underwater at high tide. Look for birds, fish, whales, faces and abstract shapes; learn about the carvings and enjoy a petroglyph-rubbing demonstration. Next, head to the Wrangell Museum to explore the town’s interesting history as a gold-rush supply town with a blend of Tlingit, Russian and other cultural influences. See the area’s fishing, mining and logging history represented in photos, artifacts and exhibits. As you walk back to the ship, keep your eyes peeled for wildlife and bird sightings. (Moderate)
Free Time: Return to the ship for a tasty lunch, then spend this afternoon at leisure onboard. Delight in another delicious dinner this evening.
Prince Rupert. This charming city is perched on a rugged coastline, surrounded by forests and incredible wildlife. Often called the “City of Rainbows,” Prince Rupert is a diverse community with a rich cultural heritage, vibrant arts scene and natural beauty. The waterfront of Cow’s Bay is dotted with shops, restaurants, galleries and museums. Nearby is the Khutzeymateen Grizzly Bear Sanctuary, and the waters offshore are filled with porpoises, seals and humpback and orca whales. (Moderate)
Free Time: After this morning’s excursion, return to the ship for a delectable lunch. This afternoon, relax onboard as the ship departs Prince Rupert and sails for the Grenville Channel.
Cruise Grenville Channel. This afternoon, we enter the Inside Passage and cruise Grenville Channel. Take in the gorgeous views of the surrounding mountains, which are thick with forests, dotted with waterfalls and sometimes tipped in fog. Keep watch for otters, seals, whales, porpoises, sea birds and even bears and moose on shore. (Mild)
Cruise the Inside Passage. Carved by the movement of massive glaciers millions of years ago, the Inside Passage stretches 500 miles along the Pacific coast and has been called one of the world’s most spectacular waterways. As we cruise, immerse yourself in views of the lush coastal forests, icy seas and snow-capped mountains. (Mild)
